State fast-tracking local virus funds

WOOD RIVER — The state is fast-tracking some of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act money set aside to reimburse local governments for the emergency response to the coronavirus pandemic, according to an announcement Tuesday by Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

This comes as the Madison County Health Department announced eight new coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 939 cases and 68 deaths.

Statewide there were 724 new cases and 23 deaths reported in the past 24 hours.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health website, there are now 143,185 cases statewide, and 6,923 deaths. In the past 24 hours, tests have been completed, for a statewide total of 1,602,965. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from June 23-29 is 2.6 percent.

The Madison County figures include 552 people released, meaning they have completed isolation. A total of 17,972 tests have been completed in the county. Information by ZIP code shows additional cases in the Troy, Collinsville, Madison, Litchfield and Hillsboro areas. The number of cases in Wood River decreased by one to 28.

As of Tuesday 176 cases were reported in 62234 (Collinsville), 155 in 62040 (Granite City/Pontoon Beach), 154 in 62002 (Alton), 123 in 62025 (Edwardsville), 80 in 62034 (Glen Carbon), 46 in 62060 (Madison) and 62035 (Godfrey), 42 in 62010 (Bethalto), 28 in 62095 (Wood River) and 30 in 62294 (Troy).
